An Introduction to Somatic Movement

WHERE: Buckland Lake Reserve, Salt Lane, Cliffe, Rochester ME3 7RT, there is plenty of free parking available

EXCHANGE: All donations in cash please, minimum donation £5

I am offering an introduction to Somatic Movement Education workshop at the Eternal Lake Reserve, with the view of arranging a 4-week course to help participants to dive deeper into the body.

My aim is to raise some funds for Beads of Courage a UK charity and also to spread awareness of how beneficial this method of movement is, especially during times of stress.

Our body is the vessel carrying us around and it is important to not only look after it but also understand how it can get out of balance and how to help it rebalance.

Every single one of us carries some contraction in the body, in this workshop you will learn how to improve your mobility and reduce pain and stiffness.

In this workshop we will explore the following:

  • A brief description of the history of Somatics.

  • Differences between stretching and using the somatic method of pandiculation, with practice examples.

  • Looking at how all humans respond to stress with 3 body reflexes and explore how to recognise those patterns within you.

  • Practice some basic somatic movements to experience the benefits.

For more information on somatics, you can visit my website here.

Please wear loose clothing as when we practice on the floor the body gets cold quickly, bring a mat or something to lay on and something to put under your head (a cushion, pillow or folded towel).

You will need to be able to comfortably lay on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor to take part. Apart from that, this workshop is suitable for everyone.

Any questions please get in touch with me.

I hope we can raise a good sum of money for Beads of Courage and learn a little more about our bodies.

Looking forward to sharing with you.
